First State Community Bank of Owensville will be the site on Sunday, June 30, of a Speaker Series program sponsored by the Gasconade County Historical Society.
Gasconade County is having a 200th birthday in 2020, and Michael Sweeney will highlight many special points of interest about our county during his presentation that starts at 2 p.m.
As Gasconade County gets ready to observe its Bicentennial, the State of Missouri is planning a year-long Bicentennial observance in 2021. Yes, our county celebrates its 200th birthday the year before our state's.
Sweeney was appointed Coordinator of the Missouri Bicentennial when the State Historical Society of Missouri was asked by the 97th General Assembly to "provide guidance and direction to a statewide effort to promote and celebrate the State of Missouri's rich and complex history."
Gasconade County and its people have played a unique role in the  shaping of Missouri history, and Sweeney will explain why our citizens should celebrate this milestone.
Missouri 2021 Bicentennial has a vision of what Missourians should experience at the time of their state's 200th birthday, and it is hoped, too, that local citizens will gain a greater appeciation for the history of their county.
The county historical society is working on various events in 2020 that will draw attention to Gasconade County's history and culture.
