Gasconade County – A Pictorial History was released at the November 19 membership meeting at Bay, just in time for Christmas gift giving.
This 158-page perfect bound publication opens windows to the county’s past with photos from many sources. Some, if not many of the photos, have likely never been seen by the general public and certainly not by those of the generation or generations that follow the photos. All photos used in the book predate 1970.
Each of the nearly 300 photos in the book is accompanied by a caption containing historical information about the photo. Each section of the book is prefaced with information that provides a setting for the section. Examples of section headings are Agriculture, Businesses and Transportation.
Two hundred copies of the book were produced in the first print run and they sold out in about three weeks. The second print run is now available. Books can be purchased at the Archives and Records Center between 9:00 and 4:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. They can also be purchased at the newspaper office in Owensville Monday through Friday between 8:00 and 5:00.
