Nov. 17 Meeting To Feature
Program About the 1904 World's Fair
A program about the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair will be presented at the Gasconade County Historical Society's meeting on Sunday, Nov. 17.
The membership meeting will be held at First State Community Bank, 308 W. Lincoln Ave. (Hwy. 28), in Owensville. There will be a membership meeting at 2 p.m. followed by a presentation by Karl Kindt III.
Kindt will have a slideshow and short movies of the 1904 World's Fair, with an emphasis on residents who attended the Fair from this area and signed the guest registry books. The images are never-before-seen and have been digitized from the glass plate negatives at the Missouri History Archives.
Objects will be displayed that were for sale at the Fair, and a panorama print-out of the whole fairgrounds in Forest Park will be displayed. Sing along to "Meet Me in St. Louis" with a recording from the World's Fair.
Kindt, who digitized the glass plate photographs, has been teaching about the 1904 Fair for over 20 years at Webster University in St. Louis, as well as at public schools, libraries, history museums and senior clubs. He also has digitized most of the 1904 registration books where those who attended the fair signed their names. Some of your ancestors may have signed these books.
If you have any items your ancestors brought home from the Fair, bring them along for show and tell. On display and for sale will be print-outs of the photos from the World's Fair.
The public is invited to attend this meeting.
